Botox vs Filler - what’s the difference?

Natural skin rejuvenation has been the goal of aesthetic doctors for decades, and with so much technology at our fingertips in 2023 it can easily get confusing as a patient as to what each treatment actually does.

Whether you’re someone new to considering aesthetic medical treatments or a seasoned injectable-lover, it’s easy to get confused between the treatments available. Whats the difference between botox and fillers - they’re all needles, right? Here, Dr Ben breaks down the key differences between the two and how they can both be used in your anti-aging journey.

The procedure takes 10 minutes, has no downtime and results are visible within a few days, however it takes 14 days to see the full effect of Botox injections. Results last 3-4 months, after which point treatment can be repeated to maintain the results.

What anti-wrinkle injections cannot do is plump out lines and sagging skin by replacing lost volume in the face. In this situation, dermal fillers can be used. Dermal fillers are injections of a gel composed of hyaluronic acid - a substance found naturally in the skin. This gel plumps out lines, wrinkles and any loss of volume that occurs as we age. Fillers can be used anywhere on the face; commonly treated areas include the cheeks, lips or jawline. Depending on the product used, the results from fillers last between 9-24 months after which the treatment can be repeated to maintain the results.

Depending on your concerns, either anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers - or frequently, a combination of both! - can be used. In the hands of experienced clinicians, like those of The Face Clinic, results can be natural and subtle.
